Christmas in Vietnam

The Vietnam War
1959 - 1975
The longest military conflict in U.S. history. The hostiles in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia claimed the lives of more than 58,000 Americans. Another 304,000 were wounded.

General William C. Westmoreland replaced Harkins as MACV commander. Westmoreland's personality would dominate the U.S. Army's participation for virtually the remainder of the American involvement in the Vietnam War. General Westmoreland has commanded units of the 101st Airborne Division in the 1950's.

The Vietnam War officially began for the United States in April 1956 when the French withdrew from the country and U.S. advisors became the only foreign military personnel there.
